The Vaughan-based restaurant company — whose brands include Casey’s, Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet — has over half of its locations in Ontario, which experienced a waterlogged spring. That means diners may have been less eager to venture out. A Raymond James research note warned Wednesday that “broader market conditions were tougher sequentially (with increased competitive intensity) in part due to the inclement weather, which in our opinion does not auger well for Cara given its positioning.”

Also: Statistics Canada releases its industrial product and raw materials price indices for June, earnings from Centerra Gold Inc. and Precision Drilling Corporation

Tuesday: iPhone calling

Following this past week’s march of big tech stock results, Apple Inc. will release its third financials on Tuesday. Many Apple-watchers are likely hoping for hints of a new iPhone release, expected later this year. The gauntlet has already been thrown down for the Cupertino-based company by the likes of Samsung, which reported a record second-quarter operating profit.

Also: U.S. auto sales numbers for July and earnings from Air Canada, WestJet Airlines Ltd., Pembina Pipeline Corp., Pfizer Inc., Saputo Inc., Shopify Inc. and Thomson Reuters Corp.

Wednesday: Elon’s progress

Electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors Inc. will release its second quarter financial results on Wednesday, less than a week after the first delivery of its highly anticipated Model 3 compact car. Questions about keeping up with demand persist, but Tesla set quarterly records of 25,051 deliveries and US$2.7 billion in revenue in the first quarter. Second-quarter financials from Avista Corp., the northwestern U.S. energy company that Toronto-based Hydro One Ltd. has said it will acquire in a C$6.7 billion deal, are also set to be released Wednesday.

Also: Earnings from Cineplex Inc., Fitbit Inc., Great-West Lifeco Inc., Kinross Gold Corp., Linamar Corp., Molson Coors Brewing Co., Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc., Restaurant Brands International Inc., Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc.

Thursday: OpenText’s major integration

OpenText Corp. will deliver its fourth-quarter fiscal year end results on Thursday after markets close. This will be the first full quarter with Dell EMC’s Entertainment Content Division included in the company’s bottom line, noted National Bank Financial analyst Richard Tse on Wednesday in a research note. “With FQ4 being the first full quarter with ECD included in the results we’re obviously focused on the integration progression,” wrote Tse.

Also: Earnings from BCE Inc., Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., Cott Corporation, Enbridge Inc., Fairfax Financial Holdings, GoPro Inc., Kraft Heinz Co.,Resolute Forest Products, RioCan REIT, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. and details of the Government of Canada’s Aug. 9 bond auction.

Friday: July’s jobs figures

Statistics Canada will release its July jobs numbers on the heels of sparkling economic growth data and a Bank of Canada rate hike. June saw 45,000 jobs added in Canada, mostly part-time positions, but StatsCan reported this Friday that the economy had grown by 0.6 per cent in May. According to Bloomberg, earnings will also arrive from Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc., which recently invested in embattled Canadian alternative mortgage lender Home Capital Group.

Also: Earnings from Brookfield Renewable Partners LP

This week we will get a peek at the books of heavyweights like Apple and Tesla and get an update on the shape of Canada’s job market.Canadian Press/Bloomberg Geoff Zochodne July 31, 201712:12 PM EDT Filed under Comment Facebook Twitter Email More Share this storyElon, Apple and an economy on a roll: What investors can expect from the week aheadTumblrPinterestGoogle PlusLinkedInReddit Related Stories Here’s what investors will be keeping an eye on the week of July 31 to August 4: Monday: Cara serves up earnings Poor weather could rain on the release of Cara Operations Ltd.’s second quarter earnings, scheduled

[9

post-186","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-investing","has_thumb
["GET
